Would duct tape really work?

The reason why we wanted  a new dishwasher in the first place was because we thought this one (above), our  Fisher & Paykel dish drawer system was near the end of it's 8 year run. (Or so we thought!) It hadn't been working well in months! Mind you we hadn't changed our water filters or added salt to the softener in a while but didn't think that had anything to do with it. It must be a pump going? It was leaving a gross sandy film on the dishes. It is no longer under extended warranty. I ran vinegar through it, I ran dishwasher cleaner through it, I took it apart and cleaned what I could. It was still not cleaning the dishes properly. So we went to town!  I was interested in a Bosch- the one like this but *WITHOUT* the digital panel! Between the saleswoman and my hubs I was talked into this model - IT WAS ON  SALE! It was a higher end model than the one without the panel and it was $400. cheaper because of the great sale!! Who wouldn't agree to that  right? So, we ordered it and paid for it!
(sorry for the un-sightly un-staged pics)
The hubs joked about how I could use the old one as a file cabinet!   He decided to get his jobs done and change the filters & add the salt to the softener. He pulled out the dishwasher, checked the hoses AND we decided to change the detergent for a cycle or 2 to see if it made a difference since  the saleswoman at the store told us we needed   to purchase the detergent recommended for our 'new' washer. AND GUESS WHAT!? It started working better than ever! Shiny clean dishes! It was like a beam of light shining in your face even the stainless bottom looked like it was in original state! Was it the new detergent?  I think so! but it could have been a combination of everything-either way-I now had 2 working dishwashers! We talked about selling the old one but I LOVE it with all my heart & love the  idea of having 2! We are a family of 7, we have 2 sets of  much needed washer/dryers why not 2 dishwashers!?
(teen son in above pic)

So  we decided one unit would stay out and one he would hide behind the cupboard doors on the other side of the sink. This one has a handle so it took the spot of our old one. It is going to take some work for him to set up the drain underneath for 2 washers  and for him to install it so I will have to post later pics. I was VERY disappointed when I first took a look at this one here. I actually almost cried! I left the room! I DESPISED the digital panel just like I suspected I would but more so once I saw it in my kitchen! My husband was a little upset with me and honestly for good reason! He said he would put DUCT TAPE over the panel if I wished! ....hmmm would that really work?? To tell you the truth I'm getting used to it and I guess I should put focus elsewhere and just be thankful!

  1. I think you are so lucky to now have 2 working dishwashers! I wouldn't worry about the digital panel. You're probably noticing it more because it's so new to you. The average person wouldn't hone in on that, I doubt. Love that it's stainless steel too!

  2. I so see what you mean, it just takes time to adjust to something new, when I find that perfect love, it's hard to trade it in for a new one. You will soon forget all about it. It it bothers you that much perhaps an adhesive piece of zinc plate could cover it. Just like the adhesive logos on our cars. I am sure you could find some sort of face plate that would have a peal back of adhesive to it that can be cut to size and placed to stick right over it looking like a part of it cosmetic makeup. I know that the face of the washers can be removed and perhaps you could cover it from t
He inside with the same materials as the washer and from the front you will just see a recessed spot?
The second washer is a great idea, I had two dish washers in my old home one in the center island and one by the sink, it's a real European commercial feel to a kitchen.

All in all it looks amazing in your home, and know one will even take notice like us over the top worry worts to perfection as we are. I so get it, and forget about the duct tape it would draw more attention to it. It's perfect as it is and looks great in your amazing home. I know your hubby was just teasing you about the duct tape, but I know if it were me I might have given it some thought for about a minute ( not )
I am really wishing you were my neighbor so I could see your home up close and oh so personally.

Have a beautiful weekend, don't let that digital face bother you, you will soon forget to even notice it.

    1. Thanks so much Dore! I am getting more & more used to it! If you were my neighbor-I would bury my head! LOL! I have seen your home and it is perfection and my home looks much different in 'real life' than in my pics! It is overun with 5 kids, 2 cats and all that they bring! MESS MESS MESS!! but maybe it would be a wonderful thing-it may actually inspire me to clean more often! ;)

  3. I wasn't even sure what you were talking about. I had to LOOK for the digital panel. I think it will just fade into the background. It is a great looking dishwasher. I love the handle!

  5. Mel, I can relate to the digital dilemma, I hated my toaster with its modern 2 slice feature AND the red beaming digital light so much I bought a 1950's model, complete with a cloth cord, at a garage sale this past summer. Now my taster is worthy of setting on my counter. Besides, I have such a small kitchen and very limited counter-top space, I have to keep the valuable space for the more visual eye pleasing stuff. . such as the granite-ware bowl holding my (never used) rolling pins, rusty funnels, and wooden spoons. . . lol. The rest of whats left is devoted to the *pretty* jars holding flour, bay leaves and whole garlic (Hey its white !) As I mentioned before, I don't have a dishwasher, nor do I have room for one, and it's ok with me. I also got rid of my *modern Bunn * coffee maker and bought an electric perculator, it takes 11 mins to make a pot of coffee so while its perking, I do my dishes. It's only me most of the time since my hubby works out of town, so there's very little dishes.

I really want an old model fridge, stove and sink, I don't care how user friendly they are as long as *look* good. . .we never had a dishwasher when I was a kid either, but as far as my dad was concerned we had 2 (me and my sister), so going on his theory, you have 5 dishwashers. . . hint hint. . . Have a good day. . .

    1. Hi Debi! I find it hard to balance the old and the new. I mean I see in other photos that it looks great. I think the initial change was overwhelming I guess. Sometimes I wish I was Ma from Little House!

  6. I know how you feel, Melanie, but actually, it's not that noticeable. It's a nice model and now you have two!! I don't think I ever really got used to a dishwasher because I like instant gratification...sometimes I just wash everything up in the sink. I have a big family, too, and I always wanted two washing machines and dryers!!

    Good luck and Happy Weekend!

    XO,
    Jane

    1. Hi Jane! I know I should just be very happy-as a woman/mother to have such machines to help make life a little (lot) easier! I am getting used to it I guess-it's just not my ideal dishwasher-but as with all aspects of life-not everything is ideal-you make due! I have been so caught up in this whole blog thing and trying to creat perfection! It's ridiculous really! My being unhappy-with THAT amazing machine!? It's almost been a lesson to me! My poor hubby that tries so hard and then I complain! Really!? I have been trying to re-evaluate my priorities all day! I hope to see many things in a different light! Enjoy your weekend!

  7. The digital clock on the oven panel has never worked and blinks continuously so years back I put a couple layers of duct tape over it and trimmed it neatly, problem solved.

    1. I hope it's nothing serious! Or should I say expensive! I was very surprised at the dramatic change since it had been going down hill for 2 months! We are supposed to have salt in our softener and hadn't had any for a while-we changed the soap-and I think that's what did it. Maybe changing brands helps clear out residue? We were using Cascade pucks and then liquid-and switched to Finish with the red powerball and they said the Finish Quantum is also recommended-so maybe try a few things before having someone come out? ttys!
