Today, on my 40th

I went to town this morning & on the way home I stopped at a florist shop-flowers ALWAYS make me feel good! and today being my 40th-I REALLY want to feel good! I specifically pointed to the oldest ones that were open & bruised with brown edges-I turned my head for a second and when I looked back I saw the girl was picking off the brown petals! I said "NO! I like them 'RUSTIC' looking"-she said "OKAY? that's a first!" and made a face-well I can't help it-I like them like that! So on the drive home I came to a realization-whenever I have the opportunity to purchase something for my home I prefer something with 'patina'- chips, cracks, flaws, worn but definitely something AGED. I find that is when something is most beautiful. I am like a lot of women who struggle with CHANGES as we age but in all reality I am SO loved within my home and they see me as beautiful-my issues are my own- SO I think it's best I try to let it go and embrace my own 'patina' and the imperfections I see in the mirror.

  3. Happy Belated Birthday! I just found your blog and became your newest follower. We both embrace the farmhouse style. I'm a picker so some treasures I sell, others make it into my home. Life is pretty good. Come on over and visit sometime!

  6. Happy Birthday! 40 is a great decade so embrace it! I'm a fellow Cdn blogger (kinda just starting). I live in Windsor. I like your decorating style. I love the slip cover look, rustic, primitive, vintage, all mixed together! I became a follower and look forward to staying in touch.

LOL and yes, my 40th was good-the week leading up to it was very emotional but that say came and went quite easily! take care ;)

  8. Those imperfections as you called them are characteristics of your life and history of your family. Nothing wrong with them.
Do you have hundreds of $'s to buy all the stuff out there to put on your face? If not then you'll have more "imperfections" to live with as you age. Anybody looking at you will know you've lived an interesting life and wonder what your story is.
Ah to be 40 again. There's something about turning 50 that frees you, lets you look ahead to wonder what's going to happen. Life is an adventure.
I comment now and again about my wrinkles, etc. and hubs says he likes me better that way, we've been married 44 yrs. soon, I'm 72 and he's 71. We don't have the money to buy the fancy stuff that hides all the signs of life. It's not like I was ever gorgeous to start with, a plain Jane, but guess maybe that's better as I'm not bemoaning losing something I never had. Enjoy your life and your "imperfections".

    1. Well THANK YOU 'Plain Jane' haha I am starting to embrace it all-I think you hit a stage where there is just no use trying to hold onto your youth (physically) it IS what's inside that counts! And koodos to you and your husband being married 44 years-that's very inspirational! :)
